Why Install Gas Ducted Heating?
What is Gas Ducted Heating?
Gas Ducted Heating is a popular and reliable choice for whole-home heating in Geelong and Melbourne homes.
With a long-standing reputation for dependability, these systems quickly warm your home and keep it cozy, even on the coldest days.
Gas Ducted Heaters actually look like a pretty plain large metal box. Not that you would often see yours, they are subtly tucked away somewhere un-obtrusive. They are connected to a wall controller located in a central point of your home.
Depending on the design of your house, the heater itself can reside in either your roof cavity, under your floorboards or outside beside your house.
This allows for flexibility in design when installing Gas Ducted Heating in existing homes.
A series of ducts are attached to your heater, distributing warm air to flow through your home.
Outlets attached to the ducts allow the warm air to be dispersed into rooms and living areas. The outlets will either be in your ceiling or floor, depending on where your Gas Ducted Heating unit is located.
Whether you have ducts and outlets in your floor or ceiling will depend on the design of your house.
If your Gas Ducted Heater is located in your roof, the outlets will be in your ceiling. If your heater is located under or beside your house, the outlets will be in your floor.
In our online quote request form, we ask questions which help us determine if your heater needs to be in your ceiling, under the house or beside the house.
Gas Ducted Heaters come in different sizes (KW).
Kilowatt (KW) is how gas output is measured.
The size of your house will determine the size heater you need. Larger houses required a larger capacity Gas Ducted Heater.
It is very important to get the correct size heater for your house, ducts and return air grille. Incorrect sizing can lead to not enough warmth or backdrafts.

Gas Ducted Heating Features
Modern gas ducted heaters are available with energy efficiency ratings of up to 6 stars, with the option to add Zoning to help reduce running costs.
You can also add a touch screen controller and WIFI control, so you can use your mobile device to control your climate.
For a complete climate solution, Gas Ducted Heating is often paired with an Evaporative Cooler or Add On Refrigerated Cooler to provide whole-home heating and cooling.
Gas Ducted Heaters come in a range of sizes and within those sizes are different star rated models ranging from 3 star – 6 star.
If low energy consumption and running costs are important to you, we would recommend a 5 or 6 star unit.

Zoning is great for saving on running costs as you are only heating the rooms you currently need, plus its programmable, so it can automatically turn on and off at different periods.
For example, you might have your living areas as Zone A, which you heat during the day.
And bedrooms as Zone B which you heat during the night on a lower temperature. Want to know more about the ins and outs of Zoning?

There are different wall-mounted controllers for different budgets and feature requirements.
For those who like a simple on/off with fan and temperature control, there are basic manual controllers.
Programmable wall controllers allow for more control over your system and use of features such as WIFI, daily and weekly programs and allow you to controller other units such as an Add On Cooler or Evaporative Cooler.
For technology fans, you can upgrade to a touchscreen controller.
If you are wanting a ducted cooling system to compliment your Gas Ducted Heater, you can install an Evaporative Cooling system or Add On Cooler.
The main differences in these systems include:
Evaporative Cooling
- Low running costs
- Has own duct system which must be installed in the ceiling
- Cannot set precise temperature
Add On Cooling
- Refrigerated Cooling
- Uses same duct system as Gas Ducted Heater
- Can set precise temperature to call to
Let us know if you would like to upgrade to Add on Cooling now or in the future as you will required a compatible model heater and your ducts need to be rated for both cooling and heating.

Gas Ducted Heater Installation & Running Costs
Gas Ducted Heaters are known for their long life spans. But occasionally they get to the end of their life and require replacing. It is cheaper to replace an exisiting Gas Ducted Heater if the ducts are in good condition and don’t require replacing.
We always recommend considering upgrading to a 4, 5 or 6 star model to save on running costs, as running cost savings over the lifetime of a 6 star model over a 3 star model is significant.
The cost to supply and install a Gas Ducted Heater vary depending on:
- The heater size your house requires
- The star rating of the heater
- How many ducts and vents you require
- Whether its a new install (where you need ducts & vents installed) or a replacement gas ducted heater
- Features you want eg. a higher star rating or compatible with Add on cooling and WIFI
Keep in mind the initial purchase price is related to running costs. While 3 & 4 star gas ducted heaters are cheaper to buy, for lower running costs we recommend a 5 or 6 star mode.
As Authorised Brivis Service Agents, we have access to great rates which we pass on to our customers.
Replacement Brivis Gas Ducted Heater units (using existing ducts & vents) start from $2,400 fully installed
New Brivis Gas Ducted Heater units (including ducts & vents) start from $4,300 fully installed
All of our quoted prices include unit, all parts required, installation and electrician if required, no sneaky hidden costs!
