Electric Central Heating For Your Home
As energy efficiency and home comfort become top priorities for homeowners, electric central ducted heating is an excellent choice for keeping your home warm during Melbourne’s chilly months.
This system provides even heating throughout your home, operating quietly and efficiently while reducing reliance on gas heating options.
Benefits Of Installing Electric Central Heating
-
Energy Efficiency – Modern systems are designed to be highly efficient, reducing energy waste.
-
Zoning Options – Heat only the rooms you need to use, saving on energy costs.
-
Improved Air Quality – Many systems include air filtration, helping to remove dust and allergens.
- Offset running costs & lower your carbon footprint – Those with a rooftop PV solar system can benefit from offsetting their running costs by generating their own electricity.
- Victorian Government Rebates– Take advantage of rebates aimed at encouraging people to upgrade to electric heating, which can use renewable energy. There are currently rebates for replacing your existing gas ducted heating with electric.
Installation Process
-
Choosing the Right System – The size and type of your ducted heating system depend on your home layout and insulation. You can check out our ducted aircon size guide to get a rough idea, but our technicians will be able to assess your house floor plan to accurately determine what size you need to effectively heat your home.
-
Ductwork Planning – We will assess your house layout to determine the best duct placement for even airflow.
-
Installation & Setup – The central unit is installed in a discreet location, with ducts running through the ceiling to outlets in each room.
-
Testing & Optimization – Your system will be tested to ensure optimal performance.

How Central Heating Works
An electric central ducted heating system has an indoor unit – usually located in your roof which your ducts are connected to – and an outdoor unit which is usually located on the ground next to the house or mounted on an external wall.
It operates by drawing in air from an air intake vent located in your house (usually in a hallway), warming it with high-efficiency electric split system technology, and distributing it to different rooms in the house throughout ducts.
If you have Zoning installed, which we highly recommend, you save on running costs by only heating the rooms you are currently using.
Zoning is controlled by your wall controller, or phone if you have WIFI control and can be manually selected as required, or run on a program, eg heat the home office during the day, lounge area and kitchen of a evening and bedrooms of a night.
Reverse Cycle (Bonus – it heats and cools!)
As well as heating in winter, the way the system operates can be reversed, providing effective Refrigerated Cooling in summer.
Refrigerated Cooling allows you to set your desired temperature, which the system will maintain. This as opposed to Evaporative Cooling which doesn’t allow for precise temperature control.
Central Heating Installation & Running Costs
While electric heating can have a higher upfront cost than gas systems, running costs can be lower – especially if you have solar panels to offset electricity use.
We have put together a running costs guide to give you an idea of running costs compared to other types of heating and cooling.
When installing a system, it’s important to choose a model suited to Melbourne’s climate of chilly winters and dry hot summers.
You can read more about how the work, optional features and costs to install on our Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning page.
